The
difference between the two is strictly a personal preference. Each has
it's own benefits and drawbacks. Some of them are outlined below:
Downloadable
Software
Just as the name
say's, you download and install their free gaming software to your
computer. Once it's up and running, the software runs on your computer
and communicates with the Casino's servers for all the transactions.
Generally, a
download Casino package is better for your whole multimedia experience
because the games are on your computer and all the high-end graphics and
sounds don't have to travel over the already congested net. If you are
connected to the internet via a dialup modem at 33.6, 56k then your
gaming experience could be less than fun with a non-download game. That being
said about being better, I did say
"generally". If you have a bad programmer who designed your
software, then a downloaded Casino package won't be much of a good
experience for you anyway.
That's why we suggest sticking to Casino's who use the big name gaming
developers like BossMedia, Cryptolodgic, Microgaming or Gamblingsoftware
etc.
So once you have
decided to download the software, we suggest you find a good book and
relax for a while. Software ranges from 2megs all the way up to 20megs
in some cases. With a dialup connection, you could be waiting for up to
an hour and a half for it to finish. When you consider the end benefits,
like less lag times, full screen play, better configurability and
multimedia, the download is usually well worth the wait.
Non-Download
Software
This version of
playing your favorite Casino games is defiantly the easier way to go (especially
if your new to computers/internet). All you have to do is click on the games icon
that you want to play at your Casino and a window pops up with your
chosen game all ready for you to play. It's pretty much that simple.
You really need a
good, up-to-date computer and software for this type of play. Most
Casino's who use this method program their games using either Flash or
Shockwave technology so you'll need a web browser that can handle it.
Some drawbacks
would include lag times for a slow internet connection. Because you're
running the software from their computers and there is a lot of
information being transferred, you can get choppy or slow (even worse,
disconnected) graphics during play. If you have a firewall or are using
a Proxy Server, you could get limited or even no play at all. In a
situation like that, you would have to call the Casino or you ISP to
clear up the problem.
In our
experience, we don't think there is a better choice when choosing the
type of Gambling software, each has it's own assets and drawbacks. The
old adage once again holds true.....six of one or a half dozen of the
other. It's really a personal choice, but we would lean a little more to
the download side if forced.
